5.9 magnitude earthquake rattles western Iran

The epicenter of the quake was 6 miles from Tazehabad and 19 miles from Javanrud. Each cities are near the Iran-Iraq border. The earthquake struck at a depth of some 10 kilometers (6 miles).

Iran’s Emergency and Pure Catastrophe Company instructed state-run Press TV that 5 rescue groups have been despatched to the world.

Press TV, an English-language tv station in Iran, tweeted that folks had been rushed to the hospital, although there have been no rapid casualty figures.

Residents in Baghdad, in neighboring Iraq, instructed CNN they felt the capital metropolis shake. Baghdad is 342 kilometers, or greater than 200 miles, from the Iran border.

“Oh my gosh. My furnishings moved throughout the ground,” one resident mentioned. “I needed to name and test all my family had been OK.”

The earthquake was first reported at 6.1 magnitude by the US Geological Survey.

Greater than 400 individuals had been killed when a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck near the Iran-Iraq border in November 2017.
