Beijing’s deserted Olympic venues in footage


(CNN) — It is 10 years since China hosted the 2008 Summer season Olympic Video games. A decade later lots of the celebrated Beijing venues and constructions used for the competitors are deserted.

Many have been purpose-built for the Video games — infamously, residents have been rehoused and buildings have been bulldozed to make room for the constructions.

Photographer Greg Baker captured the eerie relics in a sequence of latest images. In his pictures, weeds develop wild contained in the Seaside Volleyball stadium, the white water fast monitor is crammed with junk and nature has reclaimed the BMX monitor — with folks even planting greens on the former end line.

Elsewhere, the Fuwa — the bright-colored, enjoyable mascots of the 2008 video games — lie deserted behind a never-completed shopping center.

New period?

Fans stored under the grandstand of the beach volleyball stadium are no longer in use.

Followers saved underneath the grandstand of the seashore volleyball stadium are now not in use.

Additionally it is understood that among the venues used within the 2008 Olympic Video games will probably be repurposed for the 2022 occasion.

Not all of the constructions are deserted — the Hen’s Nest stadium remains to be a vacationer magnet and goes for use for the Opening and Closing ceremonies in 2022.

The Beijing Nationwide Aquatics Middle — the so-called Water Dice — can even be revitalized and can grow to be the “Ice Dice” as a substitute.

Time will inform whether or not different venues see a brand new lease of life. Within the meantime, they’re an eerie reminder of a sporting summer season passed by.
