The Countdown grocery store chain stated Sunday the Alternative model has been withdrawn from shops “as a precautionary measure.” Countdown can also be advising prospects to chop up strawberries earlier than consuming them.
The chain stated no sickness or damage has been reported in New Zealand. Countdown is working with New Zealand and Australian authorities.
“At Countdown we take meals security very severely and we’ve got withdrawn any remaining Alternative strawberries from sale from Countdown, SuperValue and FreshChoice supermarkets whereas we examine this with our suppliers,” the chain stated in an announcement.
The announcement comes after a minimum of 100 studies of needles being present in strawberries in Australia final week.
Stitching needles and pins have been present in all six Australian states, in a minimum of six manufacturers of strawberries.
The needles have triggered panic in Australia and neighboring nations.
“It is not a joke. It is not humorous. You are placing the livelihoods of hardworking Australians in danger and also you’re scaring kids,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison stated Wednesday. “You are a coward and you are a grub, and for those who try this kind of factor on this nation, we are going to come after you.”
