Cuomo made the feedback within the context of a bigger argument about gender equality and ladies reaching their full potential.

“We’re not going to make America nice once more. It was by no means that nice,” Cuomo, a Democrat, remarked at a invoice signing occasion in New York Metropolis. The remark was met by an audible response from the group.

His feedback have been a response to President Donald Trump’s marketing campaign catchphrase — “Make America Nice Once more.”

“Now we have not reached greatness. We’ll attain greatness when each American is absolutely engaged,” Cuomo added. “We’ll attain greatness when discrimination and stereotyping of girls, 51% of our inhabitants, is gone, and each girl’s full potential is realized and unleashed and each girl is making her full contribution.”

“Governor Cuomo disagrees with the President,” stated Dani Lever, press secretary for Cuomo, in an announcement. “The Governor believes America is nice and that her full greatness might be absolutely realized when each man, girl, and little one has full equality. America has not but reached its most potential.”

She added, “When the President speaks about making America nice once more — going again in time — he ignores the ache so many endured and that we suffered from slavery, discrimination, segregation, sexism and marginalized girls’s contributions. The Governor believes that when everyone seems to be absolutely included and everyone seems to be contributing to their most potential, that’s when America will obtain most greatness.”

Late Wednesday evening, Trump weighed in on Twitter: ” ‘WE’RE NOT GONG TO MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, IT WAS NEVER THAT GREAT.’ Are you able to imagine that is the Governor of the Highest Taxed State within the U.S., Andrew Cuomo, having a complete meltdown!”

Cuomo faces Democrat Cynthia Nixon in a main for the gubernatorial seat. His Republican challenger, Marc Molinaro, stated earlier Wednesday that Cuomo “owes the nation an apology.”

“He ought to be ashamed of himself,” Molinaro added.
