“The project started about two years ago when my sister and I were putting together a video game themed group show in her gallery,” Navas told BuzzFeed.

“I knew I wanted to do a Super Metroid themed piece, but was kind of at a loss for how to represent it,” she said. “Then one day, when I went to work, I came across an image of the Mayan calendar on a customer's shirt.”
