You Guys, Darth Vader Briefly Appears In The New “Star Wars: Rogue One” Trailer

The trailer was shown to audiences at the Star Wars Celebration event in London last month. Today, the rest of the world gets to see it.

The new Rogue One trailer dropped tonight during the Olympics, and it is GOOD.

If you don't know what Rogue One is, let me explain: It's a standalone Star Wars film, nothing to do with The Force Awakens, set sometime between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope.

The major surprise in this trailer was this: At the very end, we see a glimpse of Darth Vader overlooking the Death Star’s plans and hear his infamous breathing.

At the London Star Wars Celebration event last month, director Gareth Edwards spoke about Darth Vader's involvement in Rogue One: “When we finished filming in December I got straight on a plane to New York and did a voiceover recording with a gentleman called James Earl Jones.” He then jokes, “I can't tell you what role he plays in the film because I don't want to give that away.”

Jones, who plays a soldier who escapes from The Empire, said at the Star Wars event that there is not much mystery about her character: “I feel there's one major difference between Jyn Erso and other Star Wars heroes, Rey and Luke,” Jones said. “Jyn, she's not a character who's asking, 'Who am I and have I come from?' We know that about her, we know where she's come from. And that fact is what propels the story.”

We also see Diego Luna — who actually has some lines in the trailer this time — as Captain Cassian Andor.

Talking about his character, Diego said: “He works for the rebellion for intelligence. The team starts being just the two of them, Jyn and Cassium. As the story continues the team grows, like any team there's frictions, there's issues and it is Cassium that has to keep them together.” We learn that Cassium is good friends with a droid called K-2SO.
